ENGL
Simon aka. ENGL moved to Vienna for his studies. After falling into a rabbit hole of DAW-less music making - aka.: “without a laptop on stage” - he soon got signed by the Berlin based Label “r.o.t. Respectortolerate Records”. He Played various live Sets at local Events in Vienna, and a hand full of radio shows - such as a live set for the infamous FM4 Radio Show “Unlimited”.
Being always interested in foreign languages, he got a Pocket Operator for his 25th birthday and soon started deep diving into the language of the music machines, loopers, samplers synths and groove boxes, with faders and knobs being the core elements of his live improvisation. Like a freestyle rapper is using words , ENGLs way of making music is similar in an improvisational aspect: he creates Beats and Harmonies on the fly, playing melodies on top - if it suits the jam.. what does a certain sound source have to say? Every of his performances is a playful conversation between an Italian nerd and the every changing setup of machines, that Engl pulls out of his yellow suitcase… Each set is quite unique as the puzzle pieces of his gear collection are always exchanged slightly for each gig. One very important aspect for his work ethic: the process of making music is the making of the music. Each machine has its own language - and together with the Italian knob fiddler ENGL - they create a conversation leading into a playful musical journey. Then press start / stop on the machines - and let the jams begin
