Thomas Lovelace is a viennese soundartist, producer and DJ and member of the respect or tolerate Artist crew. He studied electroacoustic, experimental music at the mdw and gained experience in different genres.
In his productions and sets he weaves hypnotic, dark grooves with clashing, ecstatic acid sounds and melodic trance parts to span the many facets of techno and create a space for shared catharsis on the dancefloor.
Thomas Lovelace is a Vienna based Soundartist and Techno Producer. Being exposed to all kinds of traditional and classic music from early childhood on, he was very intrigued by the subtle nuances of sound he could create with the various instruments he played. A fascination that only grew stronger after he discovered the endless possibilities of expression in electronic music.
He ended up at Vienna’s well recognised mdw ELAK department, studying experimental electronic music and sound art. Working with pioneers that helped laying the very basics for electronic music production some decades before and continue to explore nature of music, this place was a endless source of inspiration, debate and fruitful differences.
Experimenting with different genres - from musique concrete, noise art to psytrance, house and techno his artistic vision began to take shape.
In a way, music is architecture in time, and Thomas Lovelace dedicated himself to create temples to the dark and hidden sides of the human soul, leading the audience into otherworldly, hypnotic soundscapes and cathartic experiences.
Obsessed with textures, acoustic shadows and the idea, that the entire spectrum of possibilities of the studio and digital signal processing was the instrument that he wanted to learn, he created abstract sound installations as well as dedicated clubtracks, resonating through the local music scenes.
His work “glasshopper” was on display at the Royal College of Arts in London and his driving techno productions and sets made audiences all over the region sweat, including several gigs in Istanbul, were he got in contact with the vibrant middle east music scene.
Fascinated by the human psyche in general and by the idea, that music is created in the soul of the listener specifically, he continues to explore the endless depth of associations that can be found in the combination of archaic sounds, instinctive expectations, hypnotic repetition and ‘impossible’, otherworldly sounds.
